Movie marathons and such
I've been on exam hiatus for awhile...
As well as hadn't anything interesting to write about either...
As of yesterday, I began my movie marathon.
2 Scarlett Johansson movies in 2 days too. That's a lot of Scarlett Johansson. That and I don't even know if I'm spelling her name right. Anyway, one of them was Girl with a Pearl Earring. And don't get me wrong when I say this...but it was boring. And kinda pointless. I mean, I love Vermeer. He's a genius, no denying that. But the movie hinted at his artistic genius somewhat bordering on lewd(ness/ity?)...it just felt a bit weird. And the ending somewhat left one to wonder. With no direction. I think I've decided I don't like that in movies. However, to compensate it more than made up in cinematography. The movie was beautiful. Almost felt like I lived in 15th century Holland for that 2 hours.
Babe, it was snowing in the movie! Better get prepared for the cold when we go there then....
The other movie which I've just finished is Scoop. I'd say it's one of the funniest movies I've watched in awhile. That and Blades of Glory and Big Nothing (more on that one later). Woody
Allen is Hee-LA-ReeOus. Genius. And I now see why good ol' Scarlett here is so in demand. She's a brilliant actress. Even in comedy. Which surprises. I dunno, everything about the movie was crafted perfectly. Not one plot hole (Re:Big Nothing). Perfect comedic timing. And not in gross way either (Re: Blades of Glory..although more tactful than others..is STILL a Will Ferrel movie). Almost a nostalgic kind of humour. And by that I mean the 90's...But whatever. It's FUNNY...
Helps too that there are two bits of eye candy: Scarlett and Hugh Jackman.
Abso-bluddy-lutely have to go watch..bring your boyfriend-girlfriend-hell-even-bring-your-
father-mother-sister-brother-grandfather-grandmother-maid to watch because it's such good fun for everyone.
Big nothing is also another surprise hit. With me that is. Although pales in comparison to Scoop. Call it a comedy of criminal errors. Starring Ross Gellar of Friends fame. I mean David Schwimmer.
Wow.
Could have been the movie's tagline.
I should produce movie trailers.
Since even Cameron Diaz can do it in The Holiday.
Enough movie references. Back to the movie.
It's also starring Simon Pegg of Hot Fuzz fame. Who what fame? you ask.
Oh nevermind. I can't really explain. I haven't watched Hot Fuzz. But I'm told it's really funny. And it's British. I think.
It's sort of an oddball of a movie. Cos it has this dark comedy feel to it. Starts out almost like a Zach Braffe movie. Ends like a Zach Braffe movie. Sorta. With lots of David Schwimmer comedy and buddy-comedy-esque in the middle. The point is, got a laugh out loud out of me. (Although I don't laugh at Zach Braffe movies..just feel slightly depressed coming out of them) Anyway..worth a sit-down if you've nothing better to do. I doubt it'll show in cinemas though.
Yesterday was also the time to watch Curse of The Golden Flower. I see what everyone means by the Curse of the Golden Cleavage joke now. Did women in the whatever dynasties have their chest that compressed?? Seriously?
As if their feet being compressed to pulp wasn't enough.
It was really cool to see the processes that went on in the palace though. I remember (vaguely) visiting that palace place.
Yea, that place actually exists. And I've been there.
So yea..cool with the telling of time using the 12 calendar animals. And cool how they heated up the throne instead of what we know today as hot water bottles. And cool how everything was in the hundreds...or thousands even. A tenth of the population of China today probably sprung from that palace itself. Seeing as there were so many scandals going on.
Oh
And wanna know why I thought Curse of the Golden Flower was a comedy ?
Because I watched it in English.
=D
