Geek-anonymous Pt 1
Exam week is here.
Just had my first paper. General Paper. What a rubbish paper. The prof wrote a book, see. Pocketbook of General Practice, if any of anyone's interested. And everything is supposed to come from that book. Not that I bought the book. Because he's annoying. And he even refused to offer our class a discount on mass purchase. I didn't even bother photocopying the book.
Because it's a rubbish fluff paper where you have to rattle off how sharing is caring and doctor-patient rapport is key in this long-term medical relationship.
This is the sort of nonsense he sprouts off and expects us to sprout off.
Good thing I didn't buy the book.
Because none of the fluff stuff came out.
Relief in a way.
Yet what actually came out was so obscure!
None of what would be expected at all: Alcoholic homeless man comes in with a 1 week history of itching?? 10 marks for the differential diagnoses!! (or maybe it was 8)
Anyway, I've been spending studying time in the hospital library. More like a reading room, cos the actual library has 9-5 hours. So I've been in the reading room from noon til midnight for the past week. All the hardcore people studying is somewhat motivating. And it gets so full that people actually reserve their spaces. Some people even sleep there...(see picture later)
It was fun only because I had friends to hang out with as well. Housie David, Luke and Terry made for good company. But hospital food got sickening after a week. It was good value though- 4 euros for a 3 piece meal with unlimited portions. The last meal had 3 pieces of roast lambchops! Irish food however, can get immensely sickening. Could have puked if I had another spoonful of peas (I actually liked them the first time).
There were annoyances. Like this guy. Who sat beside me and would do all sorts of annoying stuff. He's this kiasu Singaporean 2nd med who uses like 2 of the same textbook (one 4th and one 5th edition) at the same time. We reckon he's got a contract with the publisher to spot the differences. And he sleeps. Horizontally. Beside me.

For some reason, just his being there annoys. He brings in like 2 backpacks and one big-ass huge plastic bag and makes a ton of noise with them. The big-ass plastic bag being full of groceries of the frozen-instant-food-and-meats kind which he keeps beside him from when he shopped at tesco in the wee hours of the morning(as in before sunrise) til 3pm in the afternoon in that very warm (probably 30 degrees C) room. Wonder if he has to binge-eat all the defrosted goods when he gets home in the afternoon?
He's the most sad-case friendless study-freak I know. With rituals. He spends like 20 minutes wiping off the already clean table. Some of us reckon he's got Asperger's syndrome or something (a milder form of autism without mental retardation). Dunno la. He's somehow like a scab or something. Harmless really..just annoying.

Enough bitching. Back to studying.
Psychiatry on Monday! Help!
